When is a Board & Train is right for you?

Board & Trains

While I love when families want to learn beside their best friend hand in paw, there are times when board and trains are the more appropriate option. Here are some ways to help you determine if a board and train is right for your dog.

Are you going away?

Many if not most of the clients I’ve had opt for a board and train were going on vacation and their dog was going to need to be boarded regardless during their time away. So their pup gets to come to school and learn some obedience or manners and even have a bit of fun while learning. Getting to go on field trips and spend hours each day working with a trainer can be a much more rewarding and enriching experience for the dog during their families vacation.

Are you busy?

Life happens. Another big percentage of my board and train clients simply do not have the time at the moment to implement homework in between 1 on 1 sessions. Dog training requires consistency (especially in the early learning stages) and sometimes between a busy work schedule, kids’ schedules, and other obligations training the dog to stop counter surfing or how to sit for longer durations is the last thing on their mind. I understand that and that is where a board and train can come in and help the family out.

Does training the dog feel overwhelming?

The last part of my clients choosing board and trains fall into the category of feeling overwhelmed balancing treats, a leash, a dog who is “not listening”, and trying to follow instructions from the trainer. I completely understand and while we can slow down and break down each part in 1 on 1 sessions sometimes it’s just too much. These clients want the dog to get a boost in skills from a trainer before they take the leash again. I often call dog training a dance in my sessions because there is a lot to balance physically. These clients are usually battling some behavioral issues with their dogs and need a break. A board and train offers that break as well as dedicated hours of training for their dogs each day they are with the trainer.
